We went went with Ikea cabinets and their double Domsjo farm sink. We were 'lucky' enough to get one of the last ones available - it has since been discontinued. I installed it on our temporary counters. There are plenty in stock at an Ikea near me in PA, so hopefully it is just a production and supply issue as /u/Kerrihaus mentions! FWIW - I installed this sink in our kitchen remodel 3 years ago along with butcherblock countertops. It is an awesome sink, and a bargain when compared to just about any other apron front sink. We’ve gotten so many questions about this IKEA farmhouse sink since we first installed it five years ago, so I thought it was time for an update!

Farmhouse sinks have been popular for awhile now and they’re still going strong. It makes sense – a farmhouse sink is really a classic look and it’s an especially great fit for a kitchen in an older, historical home. A lot of people have been really interested in the IKEA farmhouse sink that we installed a few years ago because of its incredible price point and the fact that it really does look pretty great in photos. It’s definitely one of those “could that cheapo sink really be as good as it looks?” type of situations.
The Search for the Perfect Farmhouse Sink
Farmhouse Sinks For Kitchens Ikea
One of the things that was really obvious to me when we decided to do a little mini-makeover on our kitchen five years ago was that we needed to incorporate a farmhouse sink. We live in a farmhouse after all. If those sinks weren’t for us, than who were they for? When we started to look around at different options though, we saw that there were plenty of different types of farmhouse sinks in all different materials and at all different price points. I really wanted a classic, white porcelain sink, so that narrowed things down at least a little for us.
If you do a little research into white farmhouse sinks, you’ll find that they really do range in price – anywhere from a couple of hundred dollars, right up to a couple of thousand – and they really do all look pretty similar.
So of course the question then becomes “What’s the difference? Why are some so much more expensive?”. We thought that surely there must be a big difference in quality and durability, like most people probably do.
We decided to go with the IKEA sink at first for two reasons: 1) It’s IKEA. When has IKEA ever let you down? and 2) This wasn’t going to be a big, fancy renovation that was intended to last for years and years. It was more of a cheap ‘n cheerful solution so we thought we’d do an experiment and test this sink out, just to see.
The Verdict is in for the IKEA White Farmhouse Sink
This sink that we have is actually a discontinued model called the “Domsjo”. There’s a new version now that’s very similar called “Havsen”. The new version is a little more modern and clean-lined, and doesn’t have the back apron part that my sink has, but it’s super similar.
It’s now been almost exactly five years and the sink has definitely been put through its paces. I feel like I can give a pretty well-rounded assessment of what this sink can offer to a busy, messy family at this point. Because we are that busy, messy family. So messy. Ha!
Overall, I’d say I’m pretty happy with the way the sink has held up. There haven’t been any serious issues like leaking or cracking, which are obviously the main big concerns that people have with a sink like this.
One thing to add to the “con” list is that the sink doesn’t come with a sink grid for the bottom and there isn’t one available to purchase separately. I know that theoretically sink grids are supposed to protect glasses from breaking if you drop them, but I don’t love them because I feel like they just get in the way, don’t look the best, and are a bit hard to clean. So I’m happy without one. ?
The bottom of our sink is just a little bit scratched up around the drain area after five years, so it’s not in absolutely pristine condition, but I don’t think it’s that noticeable or problematic. It actually looked like this after a few months and then just kind of stayed the same, so I don’t think it’s going to get progressively worse.

Other Honourable Mentions
I do have to talk about the faucet as well, while we’re here. We couldn’t decide on a faucet back when we installed our sink, so we went with an IKEA faucet as just a temporary solution. IKEA faucets are very affordable, and they have some fun, quirky designs, as well as more classic options. We were originally looking at more expensive faucet options because we wanted something really nice, but just couldn’t land on a style that we loved, so we did this one for fun.
Well, clearly it’s five years later and the faucet is still here. We’ve really had no reason to replace it so far. It functions beautifully and the shiny finish has held up really well. The only sign of wear is that there is a tiny ring of discolouration on the white handle right at the base. It’s not a big deal, but it’s almost enough to give me an excuse to replace the faucet with the new brass version of this same faucet that IKEA now has available.
So that’s our sink! Let me know if you have any other questions about it if you’re thinking of getting an IKEA sink and I’ll be happy to answer them as best as I can!
MORE IDEAS LIKE THIS
You might think more of very modern style when you think of IKEA, but that place is actually a treasure trove of items that fit in perfectly in a farmhouse style home! Here are some of my favourite IKEA farmhouse decor finds.
Truthfully, I really enjoy all of the creative, functional modern pieces that you find as you tour through the different display rooms in IKEA, but they don’t necessarily all make sense for our old farmhouse. I love to see how they use space so creatively there and I always find both the organizational ideas and the decor there so inspiring. While most of what they seem to really showcase is pretty contemporary in style, they actually have a huge number of pieces that are just as functional, but also fit in really well with a farmhouse style home. I don’t make it out to an IKEA store very often, but we’ve managed to add quite a few IKEA pieces to our home never-the-less over the years. These pieces are just classics so even though we’ve only picked up one or two pieces every few years, the IKEA-ness has really built up in our home over time. ?

Our IKEA White Farmhouse Sink
We got our white farmhouse sink from IKEA about 3 years ago and it’s been one of the most commented-on and asked-about home improvements that we’ve done. Not only has it held up really well, it’s also super functional and a really beautiful classic style as well. Unfortunately, our exact “Domsjo” model seems to have been discontinued, but they have a new version called “Havsen“, which is almost the same except without the extra back piece that runs all the way back to the backsplash. You can read more about our sink in this post here: Everything You Need to Know Before You Install the IKEA White Farmhouse Sink.
Our IKEA Farmhouse Style Faucet
We were so surprised to find the perfect faucet for our kitchen sink at IKEA. We’d been looking at quite a few different faucet styles and options and nothing we could find was quite right. We ended up kind of stumbling on this one from IKEA that seemed kind of fun because of its fancy farmhouseyness and we thought for the price, we couldn’t go wrong. I usually tend to buy bathroom and kitchen faucets that are a little more on the expensive side just because I want to make sure they really last and work well and we thought we might replace this one before too long, but it’s actually been great. We haven’t had problems with anything leaking or needing to be tightened and it’s nice and tall, which is really practical for filling big pots or cleaning anything big and cumbersome. We can even fill a pot or water a plant without even putting it in the sink if we just put it down on the little counter part behind the sink and swing the faucet around, which comes in handy when you have a sink full of soapy water.
IKEA Farmhouse Decor: Faux Plants
Let me tell you, there are some people who are very passionate when it comes to the IKEA faux plant selection. Since I see myself as a bit of a fake plant connoisseur, I decided I’d better pick up a couple and see for myself. For the price, they’re a great deal overall if you’re looking to add some pops of green to your home decor, which is generally advisable if you’re trying to pull of a farmhouse look. I found that this one here was the most realistic-looking of the plants:
I’m not sure what type of plant that’s trying to be exactly, but it’s a good one. You of course want to use the more realistic-looking plants in areas where people will see them close up and save the more fake ones for high shelves and places like that.
I found this IKEA fern to be pretty fake-looking overall actually, but it’s still a useful piece of green filler to have around the house. If you’re looking for a really great fake fern, I actually found my favourite one at the dollar store (dollarama) a few months ago.

IKEA Wood Counters
Our IKEA wood counters in our kitchen have been discussed at length, most recently in our 3 year update on them, but let’s just say they were a good choice. On my last trip I saw that they now have a herringbone option for these wood counters as well!
IKEA Farmhouse Decor: Wood Step Stool
We own two of these step stools. They’re super practical for reaching into some of our highest built-ins around the house, but they also look great when they’re off duty. They come unfinished so you can add your own flavour of farmhouse to them. You can see more of this step stool in our post about our master bathroom.
IKEA Farmhouse Decor: Arv Plates
We just replaced all of our everyday dishes with these Arv plates and I’m so thrilled with them. They have a little bit of farmhouse flair while still being completely practical and basic. These are a great stand in for the Pottery Barn Emma plates that we have on our plate wall if you want to display plates somewhere like that but want something at a bit of a lower price point.
IKEA Farmhouse Decor: Alarm Clock
Ikea Farmhouse Sink Discontinued
I admired the classic look of this Dekad alarm clock for many years so I finally picked one up a few years ago on one of our IKEA trips. It’s a functioning alarm clock of course, but it’s also a great classic piece that you can put on a shelf or a table for a little bit of farmhouse style. It’s just the perfect alarm clock in my opinion. ?
IKEA Farmhouse Decor: Sheep Skin Rug
There’s a big part of me that would really love it if IKEA could create something equally as beautiful as these but in a faux fur, but the truth is, we’ve had this one for over 10 years and it’s been a great piece. We’ve used it hung over the back of a sofa for extra coziness and of course as a rug next to the bed for extra softness and warmth on cold days.
IKEA Farmhouse Decor: Grey Storage Boxes
I was so happy to see that IKEA is still carrying these grey, fabric-covered Kvarnvik storage boxes because they’re just the perfect storage box for a house like mine. They come in a few different sizes and they function as decor while they hide all your mess. This photo is from my little Easter home tour from a few years ago.
IKEA White Plant Pots
Ikea Farmhouse Sink Discontinued Cabinets
I bought a few of these white plant pots about 15 years ago for really cheap, thinking that they would be just good basics for when I was starting out with putting my home together. Well, it turns out that this is the world’s most perfect plant pot and it’s the one I always reach for when I have a fake or real plant that needs to be in a photo. It’s just the perfect pot. IKEA doesn’t carry this exact style anymore, but they have quite a few similar options that don’t seem very exciting, but that will just always look right with any plant.
IKEA Round Woven Placemat
99% of the time, when I take a photo of a table setting, these round placemats will be involved. IKEA sells them for an unbeatable price and these have lasted me years and years. They’re always eye-catching and yet totally classic and farmhousey. ?
